Advanced Ceramics | Glazing 101
Do you hate the glazing process? Frustrated that your glazes never turn out like you're hoping they should? Confused and a bit intimidated by the whole thing??
If so, this one's for you!
During this workshop we'll take a deep dive into all thing glazing, including surface preparation, glaze faults, how to glaze various surfaces using different techniques, how to glaze complex shapes and so much more (including some fun decorative techniques!
You Will Learn:
- What is glaze, why we use it and different ways to apply it
- How to prepare your bisque and plan your glaze application
- Different types of glazes
- How how to glaze a variety of surfaces and how to glaze complex vessels
- How to use resists to provide interesting glaze outcomes
- Some fun decorative glazing techniques
- About common glaze issues, why they occur and what you can do to avoid them
- Introduction to world of commercial glazes & fluxes and tips on how to get the best outcomes
- The importance of testing
Students will be required to bring some bisqueware with them to the workshop, so that they can practice glazing their work using this newfound knowledge. Exactly details on what you'll be required to bring will be emailed to you shortly after booking.
We will have a variety of different glazes available for students to practice with, however glaze firing is NOT included in the cost of the workshop. After the workshop, students are more than welcome to submit their work through our public firing service.
This workshop is beginner friendly.
