This is where pottery stops being a class and starts being your hobby.

Tutoring is for students who’ve learned the basics and want to keep going. Instead of a fixed curriculum, the course is shaped around your goals. Refining technique. Trying something new. Working on a personal project. Or just showing up each week to make clay time non-negotiable.

At the start of the course, we’ll chat through what you want to focus on. If you know exactly what that is, great. If you don’t, also great. Your tutor will guide, demo, troubleshoot, and help you build confidence and independence over time.

This is structured support, without being told exactly what to make.

🤫 What You'll Get Up To Each Week

Tutoring doesn’t follow a rigid week-by-week syllabus. Instead, the extra time gives you space to settle in, try things properly, and actually see progress.

Weeks 1–2: Set the Tone

We kick things off by getting clear on what you want to work on. Clear goals, half-formed ideas, or a “let’s see what happens” approach are all welcome. You’ll start making straight away and ease into a rhythm.

Weeks 3–6: Make, Test, Tweak

This is the heart of the course. You’ll work on your own projects while your tutor demos techniques, helps problem-solve, and nudges things in the right direction. Expect experimentation, refining skills, and a few “ahhh, that’s better” moments.

Weeks 7–8: Push It a Little Further

By now, confidence has kicked in. You might scale things up, try new forms, revisit tricky techniques, or take a project further than you would in a shorter course.

Weeks 9–10: Finish, Glaze, Reflect

Time to glaze, wrap up projects, and look back at how far you’ve come. This is about finishing strong, locking in learnings, and setting yourself up for whatever you want to work on next.

Guided, Not Micromanaged

Your tutor’s there to demo, troubleshoot, and give a nudge when you need it. You run the show, with backup ready to go.

How Tutoring Works

Step 1: Lock It In

Step 1: Lock It In

Pick your studio, choose your time, and put it in the calendar. This is your weekly clay time now.
Step 2: Your Weekly Rhythm

Step 2: Your Weekly Rhythm

Show up, get into clay, and work on your own projects. Your tutor’s nearby to demo, troubleshoot, and help when things go a bit sideways.
Step 3: Make It a Habit

Step 3: Make It a Habit

Come back next term. And the one after that. Tutoring is built to grow with you.

Important deets!

Yes. You’ll need the basics under your belt to get the most out of tutoring. If you’re unsure, ask us and we’ll help you decide.

Totally fine. That’s very common. Your tutor will help you find a focus and suggest techniques or projects to get you moving.

Nope. You can come back again and again, work on new projects, or keep refining the same skills. Tutoring grows with you.

Just yourself and a water bottle. Bring ideas if you have them, curiosity if you don’t.

Water bottles only, please. No food or other drinks in the studio.

We’ll try to help where we can, but make-ups aren’t guaranteed. Tutoring works best when you can attend most weeks.

As your pieces are finished throughout the course, they’re fired along the way and prioritised where possible. After the final session, allow around two weeks for everything to be fully fired and ready for pickup. We’ll let you know when they’re good to go.
