The Dirty Details

You’ve always wanted to learn wheel throwing. This is you actually doing it. Over five relaxed, well-structured weeks, you’ll learn the fundamentals of wheel throwing from the ground up. Centering. Pulling walls. Shaping forms. Trimming. Glazing. All taught slowly, clearly, and without making you feel silly for asking questions.

It’s beginner-friendly, confidence-building, and designed to help things click. Expect a few wobbles, lots of progress, and at least one moment where you look down and think, “Wait… I made that.”

🤫 What You'll Get Up To Each Week

Week 1: Clay 101
We start at the very beginning. How clay works, how the wheel works, and what you’re actually trying to do with your hands. Full demo, then plenty of practice time focusing on feel and centering. Nothing is kept this week. It’s all about learning, not saving.

Week 2: Build the Basics
More throwing, more confidence. This week is all about pulling walls and building strong foundations. Things start to feel less chaotic. You can choose to keep pieces from this point on.

Week 3: Shape Things Up
Now that throwing feels more familiar, you’ll start exploring different forms. Bowls, cups, little vases, or whatever direction your hands take you.

Week 4: Trim & Refine
Time to clean things up. You’ll learn how to trim your pieces, refine their shape, and prep them for firing. Whatever you trim can be fired. Trimming is the commitment stage.

Week 5: Glazing Day
We bisque-fire your work and break down glazing in a way that actually makes sense. What glaze is, how it works, and how to use our full range of in-house Crockd dipping glazes. You glaze your pieces, we fire them, and they’ll be ready for pickup within two weeks.

📦 What's Included
  • Five x 2-hour guided sessions
  • Unlimited clay during class
  • All tools, wheels, and equipment
  • Bisque + glaze firing
  • Access to our full glaze range
  • Supportive instructors who explain things clearly
  • Fresh aprons every session to keep you clean(ish)
👍 Perfect For
  • Total beginners (no experience needed)
  • People who want proper foundations, not a one-off dabble
  • Anyone who learns best by doing
  • You, if you’ve ever said “I’m just not very good at art”
💁 The Fine Print
  • Week 1 pieces aren’t kept or fired. It’s a learning week and that’s on purpose.
  • Firing is included for pieces you trim. If it’s not trimmed, it’s not fired.
  • Clay has a mind of its own. Cracks, warps, and kiln surprises happen. We don’t replace broken work.
  • Make-up classes aren’t guaranteed, though we’ll try if space allows.
  • Ages 12+. Under 16s need a participating adult.
  • Handles aren’t covered in this course. Handle dreams are better saved for tutoring, once you've got your basics down.

You’re in Good Hands

Every session is guided by experienced instructors who explain things clearly, answer questions, and help when things wobble. Because they will.

Important deets!

Nope. This course is built for total beginners. If you’ve never touched a wheel before, you’re in exactly the right place.

Just yourself and a water bottle. We’ll handle the clay, tools, apron, and everything else.

Something comfy that you don’t mind getting a little dusty. Closed-toe shoes are a must. Clay washes out, but maybe don’t wear your favourite white outfit.

We keep it simple. Please bring a water bottle only. No food or other drinks in the studio.

Your work is fired after the final glazing session and ready for pickup within two weeks. We’ll let you know when they’re good to go.

We’ll try our best to offer a make-up session during the first two weeks of the course, but it’s not guaranteed and depends on availability. The safest option is booking a course that works with your schedule from the start.
